Boracay Dragon boating has become a symbol of how popular the island is today. This sport has gone to become an international event, once again showing how the island has turned into a sporting destination as well.
The event takes place in Boracay beginning April 30 up to May 2.
What to See
The main attraction here of course, is the race competition. All the teams have the flags of their respective countries on their boats. During the event, you can join the crowd and watch them cheer their teams to victory.
Because the race takes place in the scenic waters of Boracay, the setting is doubly exciting. The waters, the skies and the crowds blend together harmoniously. The occasion is also marked by several parties and activities related to the race.
The main objective of the competition is winning of course. In order to win, you have to rely on your teammates as well. The competition requires weeks of training. Coordination, physical conditioning and synchronization are necessary for a team to compete successfully.
Boracay Dragon boating began in 2001 and is known as the International Dragon Boat Festival. The event proved so popular that it began attracting people from all over the world.
To participate, there must be 20 to 24 members per team. Four reserves are permitted. All members of the team must bring 2 x 2 colored photos. At international competitions, the flag of the team must be included in the application.
The competition has proven popular for a number of reasons. One of them is the shrill thrill of racing in Boracay. Another reason is that it encourages camaraderie and promotes bonding among friends. Of course, the ultimate reward is winning the race after long hours of training.
To join the competition, each individual member of each team must pay 1,500 pesos. The fees may vary though, so it is best to get in touch with the event organizer first.
Even if you do not join the competition, you can still experience what it is like. There are hotels and resorts that offer Dragon boat rides. This is a great opportunity for those who do not want to take part in the competition.
The Boracay Dragon boating competition is something that visitors to the island often watch out for. If you are going to the island sometime in April, try to check the event out.
