Boracay on a Shoestring

As opposed to the common impression, traveling to Boracay does not always have to be expensive. There are ways and means you can travel to Boracay on a shoestring.

Get a Budget Airfare

Airline companies offer fare packages that are cheaper than usual every once in a while. Your task is to keep an eye for such a promo and make sure that you avail of it. If a flight to Caticlan or Kalibo is not available, you can easily settle for a discounted flight to Iloilo and take it from there.

You can even have a side trip to Iloilo if you are able to plan your trip well enough.

From Iloilo, you may take a bus that will take you to Caticlan, the jump-off point to Boracay. Be prepared, however, to add 5-6 hours more to your travel time in making such a detour.

Book for a Budget Accommodation

There are modest rooms spread around the island paradise to offer those with a tight budget an opportunity to enjoy the vacation all the same. You can easily scout for a cheaper room, as you would only need a place to leave your things and sleep at night.

Why would you book for a room that charges 1,000PhP a night when you can get one for 300PhP a night? It may not be as luxurious but it is a room alright and it will provide the same function that you require.

Have a Meal at Eateries

There are countless restaurants and bars and eating joints that can be found in Boracay. A lot of them charge an arm and a leg for a meal. But they are not the only things there is on the island. There are eateries or carinderias that offer a decent meal at a much lower price.

By sampling the native dishes in small restaurants that are run by locals themselves, you not only save a lot of money but also get to experience their lifestyle.

Look for Bundled Activities

A trip to Boracay would not be complete if you did not partake on the activities that the island offers. Do not worry. You can enjoy water sports and sailing opportunities if you are keen on looking for bundled up packages that sometimes even offer a buffet lunch.

If you are traveling with a group, a package of such kind is easy to find. If you are backpacking alone, try to join a group looking for the same action as you do. That will give you lots of opportunities to get great deals as well.
